Learning
Western culture excited me as a learner this past school year. Before I came to
Seattle, I didn’t know anything about Western culture. I have learned Eastern
culture for 16 years and I was interested in Western culture. In this past
school year, I learned a lot from classes. I learned many tales in middle age
from The Canterbury Tales. I learned
many famous characters from Macbeth, a
tragedy written by Shakespeare. I learned many Western history from humanity
lectures.
Reading
books that includes Western culture is very fun for me. For example, I learned
Fates vs. Free will from Oedipus and Macbeth. I can see the conflicts between
fates and free will happened a long time age, and still is a big topic to discuss
it.
I
think joining a debate with domestic section is the biggest challenge for me.
Although my group didn’t win the game, I actually participated in it. I felt
the feeling of debate, a kind of stress, but also excited. It is a greatest
success for me as a learner. My goal was trying to learn the style of America
to think and discuss things. My goal for the upcoming summer is trying to
remember vocabulary for next year, and I may try to remember 10 words every day.
I hope I can learn more about Western culture and American culture to integrate
this society and get a great score in all classes.
